Crank'd 3-18-18+ is a liquid food plot fertilizer built for starter fertility. Light on nitrogen, heavy on phosphorus and potassium, and mixed with water and sprayed rather than spread. It goes down at 2.5 to 4 gallons per acre pre plant or pre emerge, then 2.5 to 3 gallons per acre through the growing season, carried in 15 to 20 gallons of water. 🌱  How Much Do You Need 

 

Two things trip up first time liquid buyers. They buy for one pass instead of the full program, and they forget the water.

 

For a full season program, plan on about 5.5 gallons of Crank'd per acre. That is 3 gallons pre plant and 2.5 gallons through the growing season. Buying for only the first pass is the most common ordering mistake on this product.

 

A half acre kill plot needs about 1.5 gallons pre plant and 1.25 gallons in season, or roughly 3 gallons for the season. A two acre field runs about 11 gallons for the season.

 

On the water side, 15 to 20 gallons of carrier per acre means a 25 gallon ATV sprayer covers a little over an acre per tank. Plan your fill trips before you head to a remote plot, not after.

Fertility is the least exciting part of food plotting and the part that decides how the plot actually turns out. A good seed blend on ground with no phosphorus or potassium produces a thin stand that quits in September. That is the problem Crank'd 3-18-18+ is built to solve.

 

The analysis tells you what it is for. Three parts nitrogen, eighteen parts phosphorus, eighteen parts potassium. Phosphorus builds roots and drives early establishment. Potassium handles stress tolerance, drought resilience, and standing power late in the year. The light nitrogen load means it will not push a clover plot into producing top growth at the expense of the roots, and it will not feed your weeds the way a heavy nitrogen product will.

 

The liquid format is the practical part. Most hunting plots are not sitting next to a road where a fertilizer truck can pull in. They are down a two track, through the timber, in the back corner of the property. Bagged fertilizer means hauling weight and running a spreader over ground that may not be spreader friendly. A liquid mixes in a sprayer tank you already own for herbicide, applies evenly at a walking pace, and puts nutrients down in a form the plant can use quickly.

 

Be clear on what it does and does not do. This is a fertility product. It does not correct pH, and no liquid fertilizer will substitute for lime on acidic ground. If your soil test comes back at 5.2, lime is the first purchase and everything else is second. Get pH right, then let a product like this do its job.

Take a soil test first if you possibly can. Phosphorus and potassium recommendations are only meaningful against a baseline, and a test costs less than a single gallon of anything you will buy this season.

 

Mix at 15 to 20 gallons of water per acre and agitate. Apply the first pass pre plant or pre emerge so the nutrients are in place when the stand is establishing, then follow through the growing season with the second pass.

 

Tank mixing with other products should be jar tested first and checked against every label involved. Compatibility varies by product and by water quality, and a tank that gels up in the field is a bad afternoon.

On badly depleted ground that needs large corrective amounts of phosphorus and potassium, granular is usually the cheaper way to make up a big deficit, and a soil test will tell you which situation you are in.

 

Do I still need a soil test and lime?

 

Yes on both counts if the ground calls for it. Fertilizer feeds the plant, lime fixes the pH that determines whether the plant can take the fertilizer up at all. On acidic soil, applying nutrients without correcting pH first is money spent on nutrients the crop cannot fully reach.

 

Can I tank mix it with herbicide or other products?

 

Sometimes, but jar test first and read every label involved. Compatibility depends on the specific products and on your water. Mix a small test batch in a jar at the same ratio, let it sit, and look for separation or gelling before you commit a full tank.

 

When should I apply it?
